About:

Data Centre is a secure facility designed for the centralized storage, processing, and management of digital data, critical for supporting an organization's IT infrastructure.

Infra Structure

  • Setting up and maintenance of Data Center/HPC including racks, UPS, DG Set, Cooling, and Access control.
  • Monitoring of DC/HPC resources and physical infra of DC.
  • Allocation of rack space for hosting clusters, storage systems and high-end servers procured by the faculty.
  • Private Cloud setup on common compute resources of the institute.
  • Providing computing resources for hosting of web servers of various websites of IITH, AIMS, ERP systems on CC servers/cloud.
  • Managing key services like Discourse, storage system, Name server, VPN, DHCP, LDAP etc.
  • Auditing, advising, implementing security mechanisms on CC services.

Overview

The main purpose of this datacenter is to host IT equipment belonging to the Computer Center (CC) and various departments. The IT equipment is expensive and procured from respective funds (CC, institute/department or projects). To run these IT-equipment, Non-IT equipment viz., racks, uninterruptible power supply (UPS), diesel generator (DG), and precision air conditioners (PAC) are required. We could overcome the situation of not efficiently utilizing the IT equipment (servers) which were procured and could not be powered on by procuring additional Active non-IT equipment UPS, DG, PAC.

All computational equipment required for computation, storage, networking are called IT equipment.

  • Rack servers (without GPU)
  • Rack servers (with GPUs)
  • Blade servers
  • Storage appliances
  • Network switche

Non-Information technology (Non-IT) equipment

All remaining equipment / facilities required for operation of IT equipment are called Non-IT equipment. This includes

  • Racks with Power Distribution Units (PDUs)
  • Raw power
  • Diesel Generator (DG)
  • Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) system
  • Precision Air Conditioning (PAC) system
  • Cold aisle containment (CAC)
  • Fire detection and suppression system
  • Rodent repellent system
  • Water leak detection system
  • CCTV system
  • Access control system.
